Sebastian scored again on the God front. About a week ago Sebastian’s teacher called to tell Tess the following story.
The kids were acting up on this particular day… pushing and pulling one another, snapping and cranky… generally impolite and disrespectful. It sounded like one of those situations where the "group animal" started taking over the crowd. Apparently Sebastian was only on the periphery of the activity and not really involved in the tension.
The teacher finally had to step in, which started by ending the current activity (I think it was ‘open play’) and shepperded everyone back into a circle for a pep talk. The fire side chat involved reminding everyone to respect one another – especially our differences – to play fair, share, be friendly, make the right choices and so on.
Reportedly the group sat there quietly. A little shocked that things had gotten to the point they "needed a talking to" by the teacher. Lots of sullen faces with many of the kids avoiding eye contact with the teacher. Just as the teacher finished her message one of the boys raised his hand. She was a little disgruntled, as she’d hoped that a short silent period might help her message sink in. Nonetheless, she looked at the boy and said sternly, "Yes, Sebastian, do you have something you would like to say?"
"Yes," Sebastian replied and in a tone that affirmed the teacher’s message continued with, "God says that everyone is special."
