Like any four year old, Sebastian has an incredible and sweet imagination and then some. Here are two adorable things recently demonstrated by Sebastian:
Shaving
For well over a year Seb likes to join me in the shower many mornings. Up until a month ago this primarily involved playing with a bucket (that often substituted for a boat, car, train or bus) and Nemo, Dory, Marlin and Crush. At Seb’s November birthday party, though, he received a play shaving kit. The kit consists of shaving foam (foamy blue soap), plastic play razor, shaving brush and small mirror.
The kit really changed the dynamic of our showers. Now he loves to shave. The other day when we had to run out somewhere in a hurry, there was no time for a shower and instead we shaved at the sink. Tess captured the moment in this pic!
Computers
As you can imagine, Sebastian is becoming inceasingly interested in computers. He regularly sees Tess at the computer doing her work – writing articles etc. If he asks what she I’d doing, she’ll say, "I am doing some work." Same with me… sometimes I’ll be working on my laptop or our home computer. Seb will arrive from the playground, for example, and will ask, "Are you doing your work, Daddy?"
So now, Sebastian is doing work, too. If we are going out or asking Seb to do something, occasionally he will answer with, "I can’t right now, I am busy doing work." Usually he says this very innocently with no attitude. I’ll ask, "How long will you be?" and he’ll normally explain that he’ll be done in "just a few minutes." I am okay with this, taking it as a chance to teach patience and planning.
Patience is something a little lacking with Sebastian, especially when HE wants to use the computer but it is already in use. The other day he became increasingly anxious and finally I suggested we find his keyboard. (Long ago we gave him an old keyboard to play with.) A short while later I handed Sebastian an old wireless keyboard and mouse. Off he went to do his work.
Sebastian quiet for the longest time. It was just before bedtime, triplets asleep, and I wondered if maybe he had nodded off himself somewhere. I got up from the computer to investigate. As I walked down the Sebastian came walking out of the playroom. I asked him, "Have you been doing your work?"
"Yes," he replied excitedly.
I walked into the playroom to find the keyboard sitting on the sofa and a chair in front of the keyboard. But the sweetest part, was who Sebastian was using as a computer: Baloo. Perched beyond the keyboard was Baloo… "Is this the computer screen?" I asked Sebastian.
"Yes," he replied excitedly. His imagination was so endearing it broke my heart.

Michele sent me to spread comment cheer! 🙂
Love the anecdote, he’s a real cutie. To be that age again…how do they come up with these things.
Charles, those are two of the sweetest comments !! Please tell Sebbie that Auntie Pammie is very proud of him for being such a BIG boy and for doing his work.
Love to you all.

yes that is very cool – it only gets better as they get older – well for a while, anyway here from michele
They grow up way too fast so savour these moments. Before long he will be asking your for the keys to the car!
hi! thanks for the visit! you have one sweet (and smart) kid there! please continue to regale us with your stories. have blogrolled you to make sure i know where to go back. 🙂
I love the shaving story. Kids are so great. Always wanting to grow up. But then when you grow up, you just wish you were a kid again.
I love watching our kids try to be like us. We just bought a camera for our eldest son (he’s 11) and he’s been honing his eye and technique on walkabout photo shoots with me ever since.
Who says the apple has to fall far from the tree?
I love to hear examples of the remarkable independent imagination of kids – it’s a wonderful can-do attitude. If we could only be as creative as adults. Way to go Seb. Who’s Michele? xo
Ohhhhh Seb, you are wonderful. Great blog, Charles. Love your insight.

Hi – Sebastion sounds like a great kid, how lucky you are to live with him! Visiting via Michele’s today.
What great memories to document. Sounds like a pretty fantastic, creative little mind.
Thanks for stopping by earlier. I’ll be back here to visit again.
Sebbie is so cute. What a great picture.
The shaving photo is adorable… Just hope he knows not to use your razor (speaking as a parent who had a child with the nicked – two rows – skin on her legs when she “tried” to shave her legs at the age of five) DH and I just bought two Spongebob “shaving kits” for our friends four year old and five year old foster child for some up coming birthdays. I hope Blake and Brendan have as much fun shaving with their Dad as Seb does with you. I am always inpressed with Seb’s imagination. Love his computer screen…
Oops, forgot to ask if you also give him some of your “aftershave” to wear when he finishes the shave. David always loved to put his Dad’s aftershave on after he had a shower…
Precious! My 6 year old got a shaving kit from his sister for Christmas. I think I will post a photo on my blog of him using it. Thanks for the reminder of him doing that.
They are so precious it hurts, eh??!
Baloo as a monitor…ingenius!
By the way, I loved your post about being back home in Toronto. Sorry about your Mom:( I lost my brother recently. Sure is hard.
Thanks for the parable you left on my blog, Charles. It was beautiful and made me cry.
I think you and Tess are amazing parents and your blogs are some of the first I check every morning. If only I could gather my thoughts as well as you guys and not ramble so much!!!!
I loved your blog about Christmas, I could just feel the pride, love and joy (and exhaustion) you were feeling. I can’t comment as much as I want to, but now that I have a chance, I wanted to say something. I cried then too, because it is so clear how much you cherish those precoius gifts you have. I love that you know they are a gift from God and not to be taken for granted.
Ok one last thing. Correction. My friend knows your MIL because they attend the same church in Yellowknife. I guess there was some excitment this summer when Sela took a few steps in the nursery:)
Just wanted to clear that up, since I was mistaken on my blog.
Carry on! LOL
